How to Get Rid of Bothersome Leg Veins by Your Summer Vacation

How to Get Rid of Bothersome Leg Veins by Your Summer Vacation

The good news is that medical advances have led to several minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins, many of which come with quick recovery times.

Whether planning a beach vacation or simply wanting to feel more comfortable in shorts and skirts, these treatments can help you reclaim your legs in time for summer.

Board-certified vascular surgeon Dr. Gary Nackman and his team at NJ Vein Care and Aesthetics Center in Oradell and Clifton, New Jersey, are experts at solving the cosmetic and physical effects of varicose veins.

Here’s their insight on erasing varicose veins with minimally invasive treatments that offer excellent results with short recovery times.

Understanding varicose vein treatment

Varicose vein treatment at NJ Vein Care and Aesthetics starts with a detailed evaluation of your leg veins. Based on those results, Dr. Nackman recommends options best suited for your goal of achieving smoother, healthier legs with minimal downtime.

Minimally invasive vein treatments use a chemical solution (sclerotherapy) or heat produced by radiofrequency energy/laser (thermal ablation) to seal the damaged vein. This process prompts the body to reroute blood flow to healthy veins, alleviating the circulatory issues and physical symptoms of varicose veins.

As the body clears away cellular debris left from the treated vein, the skin discoloration fades, leaving you with smooth, summer-friendly legs.

Types of vein treatments

Minimally invasive therapies offered at NJ Vein Care and Aesthetics Center include:

Venefit® (radiofrequency ablation)

Venefit (previously VNUS Closure), or radiofrequency (RF) ablation, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to heat and seal the affected vein.

During the procedure, Dr. Nackman makes a small, puncture-type incision to access the targeted vein. Guided by ultrasound imaging, he uses a small tube (catheter) inserted into the vein to deliver the RF energy.

Patients usually experience minimal if any discomfort during Venefit and can resume normal activities within a day or two, although strenuous activities may be restricted for a short period.

Varithena® (injectable foam)

Varithena is a type of sclerotherapy that uses a foam solution injected into the varicose vein to collapse and seal it.

You may experience mild discomfort or bruising at the injection site but can resume normal activities shortly after the procedure.

Asclera® (injectable polidocanol)

Asclera is another type of sclerotherapy treatment for varicose veins. It involves injecting a solution directly into the affected vein, causing it to collapse and fade over time.

Minor discomfort or bruising at the injection site can occur, but patients typically return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure.

Which vein treatment offers the fastest results?

Dr. Nackman discusses expectations for recovery in detail before scheduling the procedure and may suggest a combination of treatments for optimal results. Individual recovery times can vary depending on factors such as the number and size of the varicose veins and your overall health.

Since many of these therapies rely on your body to remove vein debris, it can take a few weeks before visible skin discoloration and other changes related to varicose veins fade completely.

It’s not too late to enjoy the leg-baring fashions of summer. Schedule an evaluation at NJ Vein Care and Aesthetics today by calling our Oradell or Clifton, New Jersey office. You can also request an appointment online.
